Nercedes updates compact SUV range

Mercedes-Benz is launching a revised seven-model line-up of compact luxury SUVs later this year.

There will be a wider range of engines available on the new GLA models when they become available here during the third quarter of the year.

The company says the new GLA models are characterised by their "sportily dynamic design idiom, light-footed handling and extensive individualisation" range.

First introduced in 2013, the GLA has proven particularly popular in China, the United States, Germany and Great Britain.

With seven models in the range, the company says it boasts the broadest SUV range of all the European premium manufacturers.

The range starts with the GLA 180d base model with 80 kW up to the 280 kW Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 4 MATIC model.

A new addition to the engine range is the GLA 220 4MATIC. With an output of 135 kW and a torque of 300 Nm it closes the gap between the two petrol
engines with 115 kW and 155 kW.

The new models offer safety features such as a 360-degree camera and hands-free access.

There are three chassis variants, and an off-road comfort suspension system is offered as an option, which raises the vehicle body by 30 mm, resulting in improved off-road capability and higher seat position.

The previous optional bi-xenon headlamps have made way for soft LED headlamps, and the 360-degree camera records the direct surroundings of the car, either shown on a full-image or in seven different split-screen views.
