Mercedes' GLB is now an electrified family SUV.

Mercedes' GLB is now an electrified family SUV.

  • The electric Mercedes-Benz GLB launches with 200kW and 260kW variants offering up to 631km range.
  • A longer 2889mm wheelbase enables increased cabin space, a 127L frunk and a 540L rear boot.
  • The new MB.OS platform delivers rapid OTA updates and an AI-enhanced MBUX system.

Mercedes-Benz has whipped the covers off the all-new GLB, now reborn as an electric-first family SUV with room for up to seven and a surprising amount of personality.

The brand calls it “a versatile everyday hero”, and for once, the marketing line isn’t too far off.

Bigger boots, brighter brains

The new GLB stretches to 4732mm, with a longer 2889mm wheelbase unlocking noticeably better space in all three rows. A redesigned cabin brings the optional full-width MBUX Superscreen and a lounge-like panoramic roof, while a massive 127-litre frunk joins a 540-litre rear boot (five-seat configuration) - the largest dual-cargo combo in the Mercedes compact family.

Mathias Geisen, Mercedes-Benz Board Member for Sales and Marketing, says the model “adapts effortlessly to our customers’ needs”, adding that its towing ability shows an electric compact SUV can be “as versatile as it is capable.” Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer, calls it “a SUV with character, sensual and soul.”

Two electric models at launch

Kicking off the range is the GLB 250+, producing 200kW and 335Nm, good for 0–100km/h in 7.4 seconds. Above it sits the GLB 350 4Matic, packing 260kW and 515Nm and slicing that sprint to 5.5 seconds.

Both use an 85kWh battery and a new 800V architecture enabling scorching fast charging, up to 260km of WLTP range added in ten minutes.

Maximum WLTP range sits at 631km for the 250+ and 614km for the 350 4MATIC. AC charging is up to 22kW, while DC tops out at 320kW.

The 4Matic variant also adds a front motor with a clever disconnect system to reduce drag losses when cruising. With towing capacity up to 2 tonnes, the electric GLB comfortably handles full-size caravans - a rarity in the segment.

Tech that thinks ahead

Mercedes’ new MB.OS operating system brings over-the-air updates, a revamped MBUX interface and a surprisingly personable virtual assistant built on ChatGPT 4o, Google Gemini and Microsoft Bing. The system’s ability to hold context and draw on multiple AI “agents” makes it feel more like a co-driver than a command interpreter.

Families will appreciate the GLB’s four rear child-seat anchor points and significantly improved heating performance. Mercedes says the cabin warms twice as fast as before and with half the energy.

Lighting, luxury and a starry surprise

Outside, the GLB wears a bold illuminated grille with 94 LED stars, flanked by full-width lighting front and rear. The optional Sky Control roof can switch from transparent to opaque in milliseconds, and at night, 158 tiny illuminated stars create a rolling planetarium for passengers.

The electric GLB is available to order in selected markets now, with more variants, including an entry-level EV and new hybrid options, arriving later in 2026.

Whether you’re hauling kids, bikes, pets or just a week’s worth of good intentions, the new GLB seems engineered to shrug and welcome it all aboard.
