The release of the Motor Industry Association’s registration data for the 2017 calendar year has confirmed Mercedes-Benz Cars as the number one luxury vehicle manufacturer in the New Zealand market.

This is the third year in a row Mercedes-Benz has taken out the number one position in the luxury segment. With a total new vehicle registration figure of 2,540 cars in 2017, this is the best figure ever achieved by Mercedes-Benz Cars New Zealand in a single year.

“2017 has been another brilliant year for Mercedes-Benz Cars”, said Mr. Ben Giffin, General Manager, Mercedes-Benz Cars.

“We have recorded our best ever sales figure, with a sixth year of consecutive vehicle sales growth. We have now also become the first luxury manufacturer to deliver more than 2500 new vehicles in a single year, which is an incredible result. We have seen tremendous growth across our model range, with our C-Class leading the charge and our SUV range continuing to gain traction and a genuine foot hold in the luxury-SUV segment.

"Another exciting announcement came just recently with the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet awarded ‘New Zealand’s Safest Car’ at the AA Motoring Car of the Year awards. This marked the first time ever that a ‘soft-top’ vehicle has won this award and demonstrates the outstanding work being put into the innovation and development of safety technology within Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

"In the year that Mercedes-AMG celebrated 50 years, the performance arm has also followed this with its own success, selling a record number of vehicles in New Zealand, eclipsing the 500 vehicle mark. Also, when talking percentage of sales, New Zealand continues to shine as one of the most successful markets globally for Mercedes-AMG.

"In 2018 we plan to continue to grow and launch a number of exciting new vehicles and we can’t wait share these with our New Zealand customers and fans”, Giffin concluded.
