- GLC EV will be the start of a new model series for Mercedes-Benz.
- Redesigned grille keeps chome, but adds lots of LED sparkle.
- All will be revealed on September 7.
Grilles have been a central feature (some might say the central feature) of Mercedes-Benz vehicles for over a century. That's why the company is making such a big deal about the "new iconic grille" design that will be worn by the all-new (and yet to be seen) pure-electric GLC.

"The chrome grille is one of the most visual representations of the brand's DNA," says the company. "When one sees a Mercedes‑Benz grille, there is no doubt as to the provenance of the vehicle it's carried on.
"The introduction of the iconic grille marks an important step for the company that has created many milestone moments. From a functional feature of the combustion-vehicle era, the new grille of the all‑electric GLC has evolved into an illuminated work of art, conveying prestige through reduction, clean lines and technology."
There are three main elements to the new grille: a wide chrome frame, smoked-glass-effect lattice structure and integrated contour lighting.
An illuminated version will be available as an option, featuring a total of 942 backlit dots. This optional high-tech pixel graphic can even be animated and brings the electric GLC to life. The central Mercedes-Benz star and integrated surrounding contour of the panel are also illuminated.
The new GLC will make its world premiere at IAA Mobility show in Munich on September 7.
The current model is still the most popular Mercedes-Benz. The new "GLC with EQ Technology" is the first of a completely new family of vehicles featuring MB.OS – the supercomputer powering every next-generation model to come.
"Our new iconic grille is not just a new front for the GLC, it redefines the face of our brand," says cheif design officer Gorden Wagener. "It is the perfect fusion of lasting design codes reinterpreted for the future, making our cars instantly recognisable."
