A driverless electric hypercar that uses a 1,914 horsepower engine to achieve incredible acceleration has been unveiled by Croatian firm Rimac.
Concept Two, 'C_Two' for short, can do 0-100kph in just 1.85 seconds and reach speeds of 420km/h, the company says.
If the company's claims are confirmed, it would make it the fastest electric production car in existence - faster than the next-generation Tesla Roadster, which goes from 0-100km/h in 1.9 seconds.
Rimac's C_Two, the followup to its 1,073 horsepower Concept One, released in 2012, was revealed at this week's Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland.
The vehicle's 120 kWh battery gives it a range of 640km according to Rimac — twice as far as most production electric vehicles.
The company claims the C_Two's battery, powered by seven million lithium cells, charges to 80 per cent in just 30 minutes on their network of charging stations.
It will also feature facial-recognition technology, allowing drivers to unlock the vehicle with a glance.
Rimac claims the C_Two accelerates to 160km/h in 4.3 seconds and can cover a quarter mile in 9.1 seconds.
It also comes with Level Four autonomous capabilities, meaning it can operate without a human driver on all road-types, but may struggle in adverse weather conditions.
Eight cameras, one or two LIDAR, six radar and 12 ultrasonic scanners make up the car's sensor suite.
Rimac, a small designer with headquarters near Zagreb, has yet to announce a price for its car, though the sum is likely to hit six or seven figures.
It said it plans to build 150 of the C_Two, significantly more than the eight Concept One vehicles it produced, which sold for £870,000 (NZ$1.6million) each.
A prototype vehicle was unveiled by Rimac at the Geneva Motor Show on Tuesday, though the company did not show the speedy vehicle in action.
If its acceleration reaches the figures claimed by Rimac, it would be the fastest production electric vehicle in the world, ahead of the recently unveiled next generation Tesla Roadster, which is set for release in 2020.
The car would also beat the Aspark Owl, an electric hypercar built by small Japanese car firm Aspark.
In a video released by the firm last month, the vehicle was shown doing 0-100km/h in just 1.921 seconds.
Speaking at the Geneva Motor Show on Tuesday, Rimac said: 'Building on the knowledge gleaned from the brilliantly powerful Rimac Concept One, the all-new C_Two combines the very best materials and bespoke technology to produce something both revolutionary and eminently usable, with performance and character that elevates the genre.
'There is - quite literally - no other car like it.'
Rimac did not say when the car will enter production, and did not provide a date for pre-orders.
The company is hoping to move past the crash of one of its original vehicles last June, in which Grand Tour presenter Richard Hammond was lucky to walk away from the burning wreckage.
After skidding off a mountain track in Switzerland during filming for the show's second series, Hammond, 48, said the crash 'was like being in a tumble dryer full of bricks going down a hill.'
