Tell us about your Jaguar.
It’s a metallic black 2012 3-litre Jaguar XF. It is beautiful and the perfect mobile office. It’s relaxing and functional, with traditional cream leather and walnut veneer and some carbon fibre trim detail.
Why did you choose this car?
I have always loved Jaguar. I love the classic lines, the detail and the heritage. I relate to the branding. It is my everyday car and I still find pleasure in pressing the starter button and revving the engine.
What do you like about it?
I have always been a fan of Jaguar stylings. I think the current models are some of Jaguar’s best. The traditional lines have been retained and there is still grunt power when you need it. They are effortless cruisers with some great sporty undertones. The handling is a pleasure, confident and safe.
Do you think you’ll ever sell it?
I will definitely sell it and will buy another Jaguar because I can’t afford or justify an Aston Martin.
How many Jags have you owned?
Just this one.
Who else drives it?
My wife, Louise.
Any other vehicles?
A Range Rover Evoque.
How does this Jaguar suit your lifestyle?
It is an extension of my office. It is a working car but relaxed and de-stressing.
How often do you clean it?
Every month at least if possible. I usually get it valeted.
What stays in your car?
A David Bowie CD The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. It has something for every mood.
Manual or automatic cars?
Oh now, that really depends. I grew up with manual and still love manual. Some cars are definitely more fun as manual. For everyday, I now prefer auto. Maybe it is an age thing?
Who started your interest in cars?
Probably my father. I also had a friend in my teens who raced carts and his father had an AC Cobra.
What was your first car?
It was a Vauxhall Astra. That was in 1989, the car was five years old and I loved it.
Your most memorable road trip?
Auckland to Kerikeri. It wasn’t a big trip but I love the drive.
Favourite car scene from a movie?
Eleanor Shelby Mustang GT500 in Gone in 60 Seconds. It is the personal interaction between driver and car that makes this final car scene so good.
Favourite racing driver?
Lewis Hamilton. The most accurate and fearless I have seen.
Great day trip out of Auckland?
Anywhere as long as it is not on the motorway and as long as the weather is good.
Your top five driving tracks?
This is unfair, it completely ages me. Five Years by David Bowie; Motorcycle Emptiness by Manic Street Preachers; This is The Day by The The; Lip Gloss by Pulp; and You’re the Best Thing by The Style Council.
If you could change one road rule?
Under taking on the motorway should be banned.
Electric and driverless cars; can you imagine owning in them?
No, never, and I hope not. I would rather pull out my own fingernails than drive an electric car. Donna McIntyre
