SkyCity Breakers guard Corey Webster calls himself a 'young veteran'
Tell us what you are riding?
A 2015 Harley-Davidson Dyna Street Bob, 1690cc. I bought it from the Harley Davidson shop in Mt Wellington. I have some different handlebars on it, some different pipes and some shocks, suspension. I have had it two years now. It is a 2015 but I think it came out at the end of 2014.
Why a Harley?
I first got one because some of my friends had one. I like the look of Harleys. Even though I was messing around on my friends' bikes, I decided I wanted one so I could ride around with them.
How often do you ride it?
As much as possible whenever the sun is out and when I'm not playing basketball.
Have you owned other bikes?
This is my first one.
Bike maintenance?
When you first get it you have to do a couple of services. It depends how much you ride.
Riding gear?
I don't use all the riding gear because I'm sort of a casual rider.
Any disadvantages of riding a bike in Auckland?
The weather, it is quite unpredictable at times. I don't ride when it's raining, just because of basketball. It makes it a little bit more dangerous and I don't want to get hurt. But it is good for skipping the traffic.
Do you find car drivers relate well to motorbike riders?
Yeah, it varies. Some are good and some are oblivious, or maybe they don't like motorcycles. I haven't had too many problems, I think it is just people not seeing you.
Your dream bike?
I think I have got my dream bike.
Who taught you to ride?
I kind of taught myself. My friend, who got bikes before me, explained how to do it but I jumped on and taught myself. I actually jumped on one of my friend's smaller pit bike and then went straight to the Harley.
What was easier ... learning to ride or drive?
I got my car licence first, I got my bike licence a couple of years ago. It is a confidence thing with bikes once you know how to ride, and I think it is the same with cars.
And fellow Breakers player Shea Ili also rides a Harley. Who is the better rider?
I have been riding for longer and I have a faster bike, so I would win any race!
Any tips for young, new bike riders?
Ride to your confidence levels. If you are not feeling confident, make sure you get more practice in before riding on the roads or the motorways. Ride to your ability, don't try to keep up with other people.
Do you also drive?
I have a 2006 BMW 325i M series.
Most memorable road trip?
I haven't been really far because I have always been busy with basketball, but my friends and I ride around quite often -- we go out for lunches. We have done a couple of rides up to Omaha, which isn't that far but it is still cool when you are riding with a group of friends. It feels safer and you know people can see you with more bikes. I want to do a ride down to Pauanui this summer.
Do you take a passenger?
I am trying to convince my girlfriend but she is a little bit scared and I don't want to force her. But when she is ready, I will take her for a couple of rides.
Favourite bike scene from a movie or TV show?
Sons of Anarchy.
If you could go on a road trip with any great sports person?
Michael Jordan, in one of his cars since he's a billionaire.
How often do you clean your bike?
It depends. In the winter I don't ride too much. In summer, maybe once a month. You don't have to polish it, but if you want to keep it looking nice, you can.
Your take on Auckland's traffic?
Some mornings it is really good, sometimes it is bad. They could improve it by getting a better public transport system. Build another bridge from Devonport to the city, that would help the traffic from the North Shore. (That's where I live.)
The Breakers' next home game is on December 2, tip off 7.30pm, against the Illawarra Hawks at North Shore Events Centre.
