REUBEN MILNER PLAYS JACK HANNAH ON SHORTLAND STREET

So you drive a BMW?

It’s a 2007 BMW 320i, gold, manual. I got it because it looks new and classy. This is the first car I’ve owned. I am so excited about having my own vehicle!

Who else is allowed to drive your car?

My stepdad; he is a mechanic.

How often do you clean your car?

Every two weeks or once a month. Depends on when I can get myself into action.

Your dream car?

I would have a Nissan Skyline R35 GTR, because it is gorgeous and goes hard.

Who taught you to drive?

I got taught at age 14 in a paddock, by my dad, in an old ute with column-change manual gearstick and no power steering.

Any tips for learner and new drivers?

Be safe, be sensible — it’s never a race.

Do you prefer manual or automatic?

Manual, because you never get bored while driving.

Most memorable road trip?

I drove to Mt Maunganui with my best friend for New Year. It was the longest road trip I had done without my mum’s supervision. We drove from my hometown of Whangarei. The Mount is an amazing beach, but the swell wasn’t as good as at home.

If you could go anywhere in the world in any car with any actor ...

I would love to drive up the LA coast with Chris Hemsworth in an old VW van. He seems like he’d be a good dude with lots of good stories to tell, and we can stop at all the surf hangouts on the way.

Do you enjoy driving or would you rather be a passenger?

I love driving if it’s in a nice car and it’s a road trip with a full car of people. I’m also perfectly happy to be driven and not have to do the hard work — provided it’s a good driver.

Technology in cars — do you embrace it or do you prefer old-school?

I love old classics. But I also love the mod cons that you get in new cars.

Driverless cars?

Hmm, not so sure I could cope with that. I much prefer to have control over my driving situation.

What do you always have in your car?

Aux cord, so I can always be listening to my music. I normally listen to hip-hop/rap if the car has an aux input; if not, just whatever is on the radio.

What irritates you most about other drivers?

Drivers who drive 5-10km under the speed limit for long periods. I do a bit of long-distance travelling to and from Whangarei and there’s nothing worse than getting stuck behind very slow people.

You watch Top Gear? Who do you most identify with?

I love James May because he just seems so clueless about some of the stuff they do and because he’s always the one getting ganged up on.

Season finale

Shortland Street’s Christmas Cliffhanger will screen as a 90-minute special on TV2 tonight at 7pm. The show returns on January 18.
