You know the drill by now. When someone on the other side of the world makes even just a fleeting reference to New Zealand, our media kick into life with gusto to shout about it from the rooftops.
Kiwi references in Thor: Ragnarok? We're there. Lorde performs impeccably on a US talk show? On it. Mad Mike's drift car gets immortalized as a Hot Wheels toy? My fingers are already trembling.
Well it's that time again ... and this time it's McLaren's bespoke tuning specialists MSO that have come to the party.
The company today revealed a new factory colour. On the surface it looks like any old white, but up close it comes with flecks of blue. And it's called Muriwai White.
The name is a bit of a labyrinth. For one, Muriwai is where the late Bruce McLaren won his first race on the beach. It's also the name that he gave the family house in Surrey, England. That house was painted in a unique white with blue flakes ... and several decades on it finds its way onto one of the world's most coveted sports cars.
"Muriwai was always special to my father; the exotic name as much as the house. Forty-two kilometers' northwest of Auckland, it's where he grew up and won his first hill climb, aged 15, at the wheel of an Ulster Austin which remains in McLaren's heritage collection in Woking,” said Bruce's daughter Amanda McLaren.
"I'm sure my parents would have loved this 'Muriwai' color, and they would be so proud of the 570S Spider and the other McLaren road cars, as that is where my father saw the future of the company.”
