McLaren's three-seater hypercar is sold out
McLaren Automotive and McLaren Special Operations (MSO) have confirmed details of what the company is calling "the world's first hyper-GT".
Development of the car, code named BP23 (Bespoke Project 2) will be carried out by MSO, McLaren's in-house customer care programme which offers almost limitless upgrade, personalisation and customisation options for buyers.
Heralded as the company's most luxurious road-going package to date, production of the new hypercar is limited to 106 units, all of which have been sold.
The number of units is the exact same production number as the original McLaren F1 from the 90s.
Seating arrangements will also mirror the F1's three-seat, driver-centred layout.
"The BP23 will borrow the three-seat layout with the central driving position made famous by the iconic McLaren F1, and it will be housed in a streamlined, shrink-wrapped carbon fibre body of great elegance," says McLaren chief executive officer Mike Flewitt.
"We are calling BP23 a hyper-GT because it's a car designed for longer journeys, but with the high levels of performance and driver engagement expected of any McLaren."
Design work has begun, with the company aiming to deliver the first examples in early 2019.
Future owners have already been invited to work alongside MSO to select colour, interior trim and other points of personalisation for their car.
Although a hybrid power train has been confirmed, the brands first since the P1 model, no other technical details have been released.
Indications are performance figures could sit somewhere between the P1 and 675LT with Flewitt saying the B23 will be "one of the most powerful McLarens yet".
The focus for the hyper-GT has shifted to "higher levels of refinement, enabling significant journeys to be undertaken with three people aboard".
