McLaren has unveiled two stunning liveries marking the 30th anniversary of the legendary Ayrton Senna's untimely death.
The celebratory designs adorn the MCL38 Formula One race cars and a bespoke hand-painted McLaren Senna supercar, capturing the essence of Senna’s illustrious career and vibrant personality.
A dazzling display at the Monaco Grand Prix
This weekend, McLaren's MCL38 Formula One race cars will proudly sport the new livery at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix.
The new livery, inspired by Senna’s iconic helmet, features a dynamic mix of yellow, green, and blue. The inclusion of black and exposed carbon fibre adds a modern touch.
The Senna Sempre: a unique tribute
However, the true star of this tribute is the McLaren Senna supercar adorned with the exclusive Senna Sempre livery.
This unique design celebrates Senna's Brazilian heritage and his unparalleled racing legacy, particularly his performances at the Monaco Grand Prix.
The livery’s vibrant yellow, green, and blue hues are directly inspired by the Brazilian flag, brought together using a revolutionary 'wash technique' developed by McLaren Special Operations (MSO).
This method allows the colours to blend seamlessly, evoking the speed and movement of a waving flag without merging into new colours.
The artistic tribute extends beyond the front. The rear flanks of the supercar feature hand-applied dot matrix artwork depicting Ayrton Senna both on and off the track, a painstaking process that results in a visually stunning masterpiece.
Additional details include double ‘S’ logos and retro 'Senna' lettering on the rear spoiler, with green and white border lines echoing those found on Senna’s helmet.
Inside, the tribute continues with yellow Alcantara upholstery contrasted by green perforations, and black Alcantara door panels adorned with Senna’s signature and a poignant quote: “I have no idols. I admire work, dedication and competence.”
A legacy preserved
This particular McLaren Senna is not just a tribute but a piece of McLaren’s history.
Originally a pre-production model used for vehicle attribute validation, it was retained by the company after its testing and promotional duties were completed.
Ayrton Senna, who raced for McLaren from 1988 to 1993, is revered for his three Formula One World Championships and six Monaco Grand Prix victories, five of which were with McLaren.
