They say that you only truly appreciate something once it's gone, so we hope that this McLaren owner appreciated their front bumper while it was still intact.
The unfortunate event occurred in the Chinese city of Tianjin, when a driver was descending into a parking garage in their "fake" McLaren 650S.
While this is a nasty looking crunch, the local news outlet, CarNewsChina, seemed more interested in the fact that this car isn't actually a 650S than the accident itself.
According to their report, the car is a modified McLaren MP4-12C which has undergone a 650S conversion.
On second glance, the differences between a real 650S and an MP4 become apparent — the main one being the rear shoulder line that should be rounded, but is more angular on this example. As well as the rear looking off, the air intake is a lot smaller than the 650S'.
Commenters on the initial CarNewsChina post revealed that the kit is made by FAB Design, and is called the Vayu GTR Coupé.
Pointing out how the bumper has just shattered, the commenters mentioned how a genuine McLaren bumper wouldn't have disintegrated as this one did.
This would explain why the owner didn't use the 650S' front lift system, a feature that the MP4-12C doesn't have, and was specifically designed for these situations.
The system can lift the front end of the car by 40mm, and the rear by 25mm, making speedbumps and parking ramps a lot easier to negotiate.
