It's the kind of thing that's common in car-collecting culture overseas, but this is quite new for New Zealand. Property developer Mark Francis and business partner Zlatko Filipchich have launched Matchbox, a members-only "luxury car storage facility" in Auckland.

Near the airport, because car-collectors tend to travel a bit.

It offers a secure, climate-controlled environment for classic, performance, and collector vehicles. There are concierge services, including WOF checks, registration, insurance management and maintenance, as well as pick-up and delivery services across the city.

But it's also intended to be a place for collectors and car lovers to gather. There's a members’ lounge, private lockers, and an automotive library. Space can also be hired for events.

“Matchbox is about more than just storage – it’s about creating a home for cars and a community for those who love them,” says Mark Francis. “We saw a real need for a facility where vehicles could be cared for as works of art, and owners could connect with like-minded enthusiasts.”

Not just a garage, but a club (albeit a very exclusive one).

“We take care of everything, so members can simply enjoy their cars when they want to,” Filipchich adds. “Whether it’s a classic Mini or a modern supercar, every vehicle gets the same meticulous attention.”

Matchbox is located between Auckland Airport and the CBD, which the company says makes it "ideal for Auckland residents, Queenstown property owners, and international visitors. Members can arrive at the airport, collect their car, and head straight to their destination."

How much? Not stipulated on the website, although propsective clients are encourged to book a viewing or register their interest online. We suspect it's the kind of clientele that isn't primarily concerned about the cost.
