Famous Ferrari 308 up for grabs later this week in America
In 1984 Kim Jong-Un was born, Band Aid gave us a new Christmas classic to sneer at during the holiday season, and this very Ferrari 308 GTS Quattrovalvole was idolised by hundreds of thousands of people the world over.
Yes, this sharp looking Italian thoroughbred is an original car from the hit detective television show Magnum P.I, and it's for sale.
While many things from Magnum have long been erased from the fashion stakes — hideous thick moustachery and Hawaiian shirts first and foremost — the 308 GTS remains one of the most popular cars of the film and television world. It also stacks up handsomely on a performance level, with critics still lauding the 308 as one of the best sports cars of its time.
Currently up for sale at the illustrious Bonhams auction house, this 308 is expected to fetch a very pretty penny when it goes under the hammer. Bonham's expect the car to attract between $210,000–$350,000NZD when it's auctioned at the Scottsdale Auction this coming Thursday.
And while most of that value is down to the car's colourful history, some of it can also be attributed to just how clean it is inside and out. Since its ’80s on-screen appearances, the Ferrari has had just two owners, and is completely bone stock as it came from the factory — barring an aftermarket exhaust system.
It's also, as an example from 1984, one of the very last ones ever produced by the Italian marque and one of the last to appear on the show. Curtains fell on the production run of these cars just one year later in 1985, 10 years after the first one had rolled off the floor.
Without a doubt, this is a classy purchase for the avid Ferrari or television connoisseur. Just don't bring back the ’stache and shirts please.
