Ryan Tuerck's Ferrari-powered Toyota 86 finally unleashed
It's been three whole months since we last checked in on what is the most brilliantly silly car built of 2016.
Back then Ryan Tuerck's Ferrari 458-engine powered Toyota 86 was more or less an 86 shell on jacks, with a big hulking 458 heart pulsating in its engine bay.
Now at the dawn of November 2016, it's a living and breathing beast — Tuerck's latest update on the ‘GT4586’ coming in the form of a gratuitously immature clip of him doing doughnuts around a stock standard Ferrari 458.
In a weird roundabout way, modern drifting has at least one similarity with Formula 1 — the role that noise plays.
Noise defines Formula 1 through the ages; a thought vindicated when the series brought in turbocharged six-cylinder engines to the complaint and angst of almost everyone, centrally because of how they sounded.
In a somewhat similar vein, drifting too is home to its familiar braps and burbles — each taking on a role of significance within the sport's landscape. Drifting's roots is often linked to engines like Nissan's humble SR20 four-pot, while we're now seeing more and more teams elect to bolt LS V8s into their platform of choice.
With Daigo Saito's stupendous Lamborghini Murcielago drift car, Yoichi Imamura's Lexus LFA drift car, the GT-R R35s that are sweeping the world (including New Zealand), and now Tuerck's own adorable little serial killer of a car — maybe the sound of drift is in for yet another change.
