Lego already has something for the top of your Christmas wish list
Toy company Lego has released a Volkswagen Beetle Type 1 set for its ‘Creator’ line. Made up of 1167 pieces, the 1960s Azure Blue Beetle model measures 29cm long, 12cm wide and 15cm long. Features of the revived Type 1 Beetle set include the model’s iconic curved fenders, four-cylinder air-cooled engine, roof racks complete with a surfboard and cooler box, beige interior with folding front and rear seats, steering wheel along with a dashboard complete with a speedometer. Other design elements recreated for the scale model include the original car’s round headlights, fender-mounted indicators, contrast-colour bumpers, rear engine bay, front boot with a spare wheel along with the low-mounted tail-lights. Builders can use a selection of stickers to personalise their blue Bug, and choose from four different licence plates - including German, American, British, and even Australian designs.
While the price of the Lego Beetle Type 1 set is a little lower than the original car, its US $99.99 sticker doesn’t quite scream “people’s car”.
The Bug kit goes on sale August 1, joining a range of Lego car kits including the recently-launched ‘Lava Orange’ Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Caterham 7 and a range of Ford models.
