The LaFerrari Spider has been confirmed by Sergio Marchionne, boss of Fiat Chrysler and Ferrari, in a wide-ranging lunchtime chat with an assortment of automotive journalists.

According to Automobile, the outspoken chief executive stated: “The only future product connected to LaFerrari is the Spider, which is no secret since potential customers have already been approached.”

Introduced in 2013, the LaFerrari coupe has a hybrid drivetrain with a combined output of 708kW of power and over 900Nm of torque. At its heart, the LaFerrari has a 588kW/700Nm 6.3-litre V12 engine.

The latest uber-Ferrari is capable of rushing from 0-100km/h in less than three seconds, hitting 200km/h before seven seconds has passed, and reaching 300km/h within 15 seconds. Its top speed is said to be more than 350km/h.

Marchionne, who just added the title of Ferrari CEO to his existing position as chairman, seemed a little more circumspect on the idea of a V6-powered model, possibly badged as the Dino, that would serve a more affordable gateway into the Ferrari range.

When asked about the possibility of such a car, the CEO replied with questions about its pricing, positioning, relationship to the Ferrari 488 successor, and how the company would strike a balance between building too many or too few. Marchionne concluded that “we haven’t found answers to these questions yet”.
