Kuhl’s Iron Build Land Cruiser gains 399mm ground clearance.

Kuhl’s Iron Build Land Cruiser gains 399mm ground clearance.

  • Kuhl’s Blocker Iron Build lifts the Land Cruiser Prado by 178mm.
  • Ground clearance reaches 399mm, with 22-inch alloy wheels.
  • The package adds steel bumpers, 70mm pipe fenders, roof rack, 40-inch LED light bar and skid plate.

Japanese tuner Kuhl has never been shy about visual drama, but its latest Land Cruiser build takes excess to a new altitude... literally.

Unveiled ahead of the Tokyo Auto Salon 2026, this heavily reworked Land Cruiser Prado stands so tall it makes a Mercedes-AMG G 63 4×4² look almost demure.

Dubbed the Blocker Iron Build, the project transforms Toyota’s new-generation off-roader into something closer to a full-scale toy truck, complete with towering suspension, industrial-looking hardware and tyres better suited to quarry duty than suburban errands.

Seven inches changes everything

The headline numbers do most of the talking. Thanks to a height-adjustable suspension setup and spacers supplied by JAOS, the Land Cruiser now sits 178mm higher than stock. Ground clearance peaks at 399mm, enough to officially eclipse the lifted G-Wagen benchmark.

That stance is reinforced by a set of 22-inch Kuhl Verz DR03 deep-dish alloys, wrapped in enormous 37-inch Yokohama Geolandar M/T G003 mud-terrain tyres. The proportions are unapologetically cartoonish, but the hardware is very real.

Built like a rolling exoskeleton

Kuhl didn’t stop at suspension and wheels. The Iron Build wears a full suite of steel add-ons, including front and rear bumper guards, heavy-duty side steps and chunky pipe fenders measuring 70mm in diameter.

Up top, a full roof rack carries a 40-inch IPF LED light bar, while underbody protection comes courtesy of a branded skid plate.

There’s also a roof wing extension and an additional spoiler mounted to the tailgate, because subtlety was never part of the brief.

The overall look leans more industrial than luxurious, positioning the Land Cruiser Prado as a rolling piece of off-road armour rather than a polished lifestyle SUV.

From show car to showroom floor

The Iron Build will make its public debut at Tokyo Auto Salon 2026, but Kuhl isn’t treating it as a one-off. The company is already developing a sportier FRP bodykit for the Land Cruiser Prado, featuring redesigned bumpers and wider fender extensions to better accommodate oversized wheels. That package is scheduled to break cover at Osaka Auto Messe 2026, running from February 13 to 15.

Kuhl is also offering the Iron Build for sale, either as a complete vehicle or as individual components. The first example is based on the VX trim and retains the standard 2.7-litre petrol engine. Pricing is set at ¥6,790,000 (around NZ$75k), with ¥920,000 (NZ$10,200) attributed to the upgrade kit.

Even in its slightly toned-down road-going form (running smaller 18-inch wheels and milder tyres), it’s still a Land Cruiser that makes everything else on the road feel oddly small.
