You don't need to travel far to find people decrying the movement towards smaller turbocharged engines across the sports and luxury car world.
Those people (which often include me) see it as a movement from engines with supposed character and charisma to engines of a much more boring demeanor. However, there are a few examples that buck the trend.
High-revving VTEC-laden Hondas, and the enthusiastic donks that power the Mazda MX-5 and Toybaru BR86 thingy are exempt from such judgement. And so too, by the looks and sounds of this video, is Jaguar's new four-cylinder engine for their F-Type sportscar.
Joining the line-up next to two of the nicest sounding engines on the planet — Jaguar's six and eight — the four banger forms a new baseline for the brand. And it sounds great too, crackling away in the background of this new video released by Jaguar.
Don't discount the little guy though. The 300hp unit stacks up nicely next to the rest of the range, capable to leaping from standstill to 100kph in 5.4 seconds. And consider too that it will also be the lightest F-Type you can buy.
It'll sell like hot cakes, that much is assured. And judging by the early video, it probably deserves to.
