Jaguar has begun final range and durability tests on its electric SUV i-Pace models, to be introduced next year.
The company says more than 200 production prototypes of the model have completed 2.4 million kilometres and 11,000 hours of testing.
It says thousands of potential customers have already expressed interest in the i-Pace and order books open next year.
Pricing and specifications will be announced when the models are unveiled, early in 2018.
Some who have expressed interest online have been taking part in the final validation tests of the vehicles.
The company says Ann Voyer from Pasadena asked Jaguar if the i-Pace would have enough range to complete her favourite road trip along California's West Coast.
To answer her question, Jaguar engineers took her on a long-distance range test — on one charge.
The i-Pace production prototype drove 322km from Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, to Morro Bay, San Luis Obispo, on a single charge of its advanced lithium-ion battery.
Ian Hoban, Jaguar vehicle line director, said: “After 1.5 million global test miles, the i-Pace is ready for production and is
proven to deliver long distances on a single charge.
“Jaguar's first battery electric vehicle will also be fast to charge; our target is a 0-80 per cent charge being achievable in a short break.”
Jaguar says the i-Pace was a vehicle with “inspired aesthetics, sports car performance and SUV space, in one electric package.”
The company’s director of design, Ian Callum, has said the enthusiasm for the marque’s first electric vehicle had been beyond all of his expectations.
“Driving the concept on the streets is really important for the design team,” he said.
“It’s very special to put the car outside and in the real world.”
The company said the i-Pace would be a long distance sprinter that accelerated to around 100 km/h in around 4 seconds, with a range of more than 500km, from the 90kW lithium-ion battery.
Charging would be easy and quick, with 80 per cent achieved in just 90 minutes.
The all-wheel-drive model would have lightweight electric motors at the front and rear axles, generating a combined output of 400PS and 700Nm of torque.
