- Budget BEV offers 155kW and 402km range.
- SUV styling themes, with apologies to Range Rover.
- Doggo-appropriate silicone upholstery and accessories.
Jaecoo claims its new J5 pure-electric SUV is the first vehicle on the market with a "pet friendly" interior, including upholstery made from a special silicone-based material and a range of themed accessories including a dog carrier.
Based on the platform of the Omoda E5 (both are part of the Chery group of brands), the J5 is a compact-SUV that embraces the brand's SUV-themed styling ethos. Like the J7 petrol and hybrid models, it boasts a bit of a mini-Range-Rover look.
Pricing is yet to be announced, but it's due late this month and is likely to be a budget proposition - a rival for the likes of the BYD Atto 2.
It's coming in just one specification, with a 155kW/288Nm single motor and front-drive. It gets to 100km/h in 7.7 seconds and can travel up to 402km on a charge (WLTP).
Standard equipment includes 18-inch wheels, power tailgate, vehicle to load (V2L) functionality, 360-degree around-view monitor and a 50W wireless phone charger (wireless phone projection is also standard).
