If you count the original PGC10 GT-R, Nissan has been making the GT-R for 50 years, and in half a century of production, we have never seen a convertible GT-R.
As the GT-R has always been built for performance, chopping the roof off and bracing the floor would add more weight that would negatively affect its performance.
So while Nissan will probably never make a drop-top GT-R, someone else has — well sort of.
Instagram user 2ncs posted a video of what looks like a heavily modified GT-R sitting among a group of supercars in a showroom. If you look closely, alongside the missing roof, some huge vented fenders are up front, and two nitrous bottles sit behind the seats.
With all these modifications, this car looks too good to be true — and unfortunately, it is. 2ncs describes himself as a self-taught automotive graphic designer, who uses CG to create incredible cars.
Alongside the GT-R, a six-wheeled Urus and a Formula 1-styled Fiat are some of the other creations that he has posted.
Nissan has steered well clear of the idea of a convertible GT-R, but Newport Convertible Engineering in California tested the waters with some renderings a few years ago. Unfortunately, those renderings have stayed as renderings and we're no closer to seeing a drop-top GT-R on the roads any time soon.
But with almost every other supercar manufacturer producing convertible variations of their cars, why can't Nissan follow suit?
