Could Nissan's two-door coupe soon be a thing of the past?
It's no secret that the Nissan 370Z is somewhat long in the tooth. Introduced in 2009 as the replacement for the 350Z, it's had sparing updates since — ‘if it ain't broke, don't fix it’ as they say.
But, it may well be a platform on the rocks if a recent Autoguide interview with Nissan's Christian Meunier (VP of Nissan North American sales and marketing) is anything to go by.
“The 370Z is not a priority for us,” he said, before adding, “I hope we can make a successor.”
The interesting thing for Nissan is that they've already got a performance car flagship (a 'halo car' as they say) in the R35 GT-R. So in some respects it would make sense to either reinvent the Z-car line in some way shape or form.
It's a thought Meunier reinforced, saying that “the GT-R is a halo car, so we need to continue to develop that vehicle.”
Ditching the Z would, however, leave Nissan without a entry-level performance car in their line-up; no Silvia, no Pulsar GTI-R ... and now potentially no Z.
