Indian Motorcycles have announced that the new Chieftain Dark Horse will be arriving in NZ in August.
Joining the Chief Dark Horse, but this time based on the feature filled Chieftain, the Dark Horse model forgoes the shiny look of the standard Chieftain in favour of a more menacing blacked-out style.

Indian calls the Chieftain Dark Horse "A bagger with undeniable presence, that offers a tonne of matte black, a flicker of chrome, and a wealth of features to roll as one of the most bad-ass American-made V-Twin bikes on the market."
It's hard to not agree with their overview.
Powered by the same ridiculously torquey Thunder Stroke 111 1811cc V-Twin (with 161Nm on hand last time we checked), now completely black instead of chrome on the Chieftain Dark Horse, the only chrome to be found on the bike being the two large exhausts.
Out of the factory door, the Dark Horse comes from with a solo seat and short, tinted power windscreen, yet maintains its spacious power-locking hard bags, ABS, electronic cruise control, tyre pressure monitoring system, premium stereo with AM/FM, Bluetooth, and smartphone compatible input, and remote key fob with keyless ignition.
To amplify the Dark Horse family attributes, not only are the fenders, fairing, fuel tank and bags blacked out, the iconic Indian Motorcycle headdress, forks, mirrors, handlebars and switch cubes, turn signals, tank console, engine and airbox cover, lower controls, floorboards and taillight housing are also blacked out.
Naturally like all good custom manufacturers, Indian also offers a large selection of authentic factory accessories to further individualise the Chieftain Dark Horse, including new Blackout series accessory air cleaners, performance cams and slip-on exhausts, as well as pumping up the stereo with 100-watt saddlebag lid speakers.
We can expect owners of the regular Chieftain (It's hard to call the Chieftain regular by the way), to be able to select these addtional accessories for use on their bikes as well.
The Chieftain Dark Horse comes with a two-year unlimited kilometre factory warranty with premium roadside assistance, priced from $35,995 plus onroad costs and will be available in dealerships from August.
