- Hyundai will reveal a new fully electric Ioniq concept at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich on 9 September 2025.
- The model is expected to evolve into the production Ioniq 2, featuring a 150kW motor and 58.3kWh battery.
- The production version will compete with subcompact EVs like the BYD Doplhin.
Hyundai is gearing up to show off its smallest Ioniq yet, teasing a fully electric concept ahead of its world premiere at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich this September. Early hints suggest this pint-sized EV could grow into one of the brand’s most important models.
First look: sharp lines, familiar light bars
The teaser images reveal full-width LED strips front and rear, echoing the facelifted Ioniq 6, along with a chunky fastback-style silhouette.
There’s also a ducktail spoiler, flared arches and a more aggressive chin and bumper detailing than you’d expect from a subcompact. Hyundai says two more sets of teasers will land before the September 9 unveiling, so expect the design story to drip-feed out in stages.
From concept to showroom

While Hyundai is keeping specs close to its chest, signs point to the concept evolving into a production EV likely badged as Ioniq 2. It’s tipped to become the smallest member of the Ioniq family, slotting above the new Inster and offering an all-electric alternative to the i20.
Spy shots of camouflaged prototypes hint at proportions consistent with the teaser, though the concept may wear show-car bodywork and bespoke wheels.
Under the skin, the baby Ioniq is expected to share Hyundai–Kia’s E-GMP platform with upcoming Kia EV2 and EV3 crossovers. If so, it could launch with a single 150kW motor paired to a 58.3 kWh battery, enough to put it squarely against the BYD Dolphin and MG4.
Timing the punch
Hyundai has confirmed the concept will be revealed on September 9 at IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich, with the show running until the 14th. Reports suggest the production version could hit showrooms in the first half of 2026.
It may be the baby of the family, but if Hyundai nails the pricing and range, the so-called Ioniq 2 might turn out to be the brand’s biggest hit yet.
