CHINESE FIRM REVIVES TURBO-CHARGED CAR FROM GUMPERT’S ASHES, WRITES DEREK FUNG
The Apollo Arrow hypercar, the first all-new product from the successor to Gumpert, has made its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show.
Gumpert was a German supercar manufacturing company founded and owned by Roland Gumpert, the former director of Audi Sport.
Under his management, Audi won a total of 25 World Rally Championship races and four World Rally Championship titles.
His short-lived solo venture fell into bankruptcy in late 2013, but the company was revived and renamed Apollo in 2015 by Ideal Team Ventures.
The new Chinese owners made news last year when they purchased De Tomaso.
The Arrow is powered by a 4-litre V8 with two top-mounted turbochargers, which help it to develop 746kW of power at 6750rpm and 1000Nm of torque at 3650rpm.
Fitted with a sturdy and, reportedly, lightweight carbon monocoque body, the Arrow can complete the 0-100km/h dash in under 2.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 360km/h.
The Arrow rides on flow-formed mono-block 20-inch alloys at the front, and 21-inch rims at the rear. There is also the height adjustable suspension, which can be configured to give the car between 40mm and 120mm of ground clearance.
Pricing has not been announced for the Arrow, but Apollo plans a maximum production run of 100, with buyers able to personalise the vehicle to their heart’s content.
