Mattel is expanding its Brick Shop range with two unmistakable Hondas, bringing the high-rev heroes of Japanese performance culture into buildable, display-friendly form.
Joining the entry-level Speed Series are a 2007 Honda S2000 and a 1990 Honda Civic EF, both rendered in 1:32 scale and designed to tempt collectors who like their cars assembled, not just admired.
Small scale, proper detail
The Speed Series is Brick Shop’s most accessible tier, sitting below the larger Elite (1:16) and Premium (1:12) sets. These new Hondas follow that brief closely, with each kit landing at around 250 pieces. The Civic EF comprises 248 parts, while the S2000 nudges ahead with 257.
Despite the compact scale, Mattel hasn’t skimped on features. Both models include clear elements for glass and lighting, opening doors, and custom decal sheets so builders can personalise the finish. Swappable wheel covers are also part of the package, offering two distinct looks without needing extra parts or tools.
Two legends, one clever bonus
The choice of cars feels deliberate. The EF Civic remains a cornerstone of Honda’s tuning legacy, while the S2000, particularly in later model years, has become a modern classic prized for its balance and naturally aspirated engine.
As a neat extra, each Brick Shop kit includes a matching 1:64-scale Hot Wheels car. These are exclusive castings tied to the sets, giving buyers both a buildable model and a pocket-sized display piece straight out of the box.
Pricing and availability
Both the S2000 and Civic EF are currently listed online at US$22.00, or £21.99 in the UK. Mattel has not disclosed local pricing or on-sale timing for other markets yet. Further Brick Shop releases are planned, but details beyond these two Hondas remain under wraps.
Ted Wu from Mattel says the range is about broadening how enthusiasts engage with car culture. “Mattel Brick Shop continues to expand how adult fans and collectors interact with legendary vehicles,” he said.
He added: “The Honda Civic EF and S2000 are true icons of Japanese performance culture, and through Hot Wheels and Mattel Brick Shop, builders can now celebrate these vehicles by recreating them with their own customisation to display on their shelves.”
For collectors, these sets land neatly between toy and tribute, simple enough for a relaxed build, detailed enough to earn shelf space.
