Holden’s new Astra hatchback — the reigning European Car of the Year — will be priced from $30,990 when it launches in New Zealand from early 2017.
Confirmed pricing completes the information jigsaw for the Astra line-up that will comprise two engine choices and three model grades — all in five-door hatch bodystyle built at the Gliwice plant in Poland.
The new Astra boasts a modern technology package and its turbocharged performance will see Holden position the car as a sports hatch.
The entry level Astra R model is powered by a 1399cc Ecotec Turbo engine which offers 110kW output and develops 240Nm of torque with the six-speed auto transmission and 245Nm with six-speed manual. Combined cycle fuel consumption for the Astra 1.4-litre models is 5.8L/100km.
The Astra R is priced from $30,990 with a manual transmission and $32,490 with the automatic.
Standard equipment includes fuel-saving stop/start technology (auto only), six airbags and Electronic Stability Control. Multi-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels carry 225/45 R17 tyres and LED daytime running lights are standard.
Also standard are rear park assist and reversing camera, the MyLink infotainment system and six-speaker digital audio with a 7-inch colour touchscreen along with speed limiter cruise control and auto headlights.
Astra R customers can option the Driver Assistance Pack (priced at $1500) which comprises Lane Keep Assist, low-speed autonomous emergency braking (City Stop), Forward Collision Alert, Forward Distance Indicator, rain sensing wipers and a leather steering wheel.
The 1598cc Ecotec Turbo engine is standard for the RS and the flagship RS-V models with 147kW output and 300Nm of torque. The manual is rated at 6.5L/100km and the auto achieves 6.3L/100km.
Astra RS models are $33,990 and $35,490 for manual and auto respectively and feature five-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels, passive entry and passive start, a leather steering wheel, Advanced Park Assist, heated outside mirrors, side skirts and rain sensing wipers.
The active safety pack with AEB-City Stop, Lane Keep Assist, Forward Distance Indicator, Forward Collision Alert and Side Blind Zone Alert is standard.
Astra RS-V models are $36,990 (manual) and $38,490 (auto) with the content boosted by the 8-inch colour touchscreen version of the MyLink system with embedded satellite navigation and the exterior is distinguished by 18-inch alloy wheels and LED tail lamps.
Other highlights for the RS-V are heated leather sports seats with power lumbar adjustment, a heated steering wheel, colour cluster instrument display, dual zone climate control, electric park brake and auto dimming rear view mirror.
A $1990 optional RS-V Touring Pack adds an electric sunroof and adaptive cruise control with full-speed autonomous emergency braking.
The new Astra hatch will begin arriving in Holden dealerships from mid-February with the 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre manual models in the first phase of the launch and the 1.6-litre auto versions scheduled for March arrival. The new Astra hatch will be sold alongside the high performance 2.0-litre turbocharged Holden Astra VXR coupe from the current generation.
