Holden's new top-of-the-range Commodore
Holden has confirmed the details of its next-generation and most advanced Commodore VXR high-performance sedan, to be launched early next year.
The Commodore VXR will be powered by a 3.6-litre V6 engine, packing 235kW of power, will have adaptive all-wheel-drive, and will be in Holden New Zealand showrooms with the rest of the new European-sourced Commodore range.
The new Commodore is sleeker and more aerodynamically efficient than previous models, and will feature a nine-speed automatic transmission.
In an unexpected move overnight, Holden released details of the model previewed earlier in the week on Driven.
The VXR will have adaptive all-wheel-drive, Brembo front brakes and continuous damping control.
There will be three switchable drive modes to adjust the dampers, steering, transmission and the all-wheel-drive system.
The new model has undergone more than 100,000km of Australasian development to ensure it is set up for local conditions.
"With a focus on dynamic handling, efficient performance and stunning traction off the line, Commodore VXR will show a different side to Holden’s performance capabilities while still using lessons learned from almost 40 years of continuous local Commodore development," said a Holden New Zealand spokesman last night.
Holden's lead dynamics engineer Rob Trubiani said the new VXR would offer a "different execution of performance" to the outgoing Commodore SS model.
“We’ve been involved in the development of this car from the beginning and I personally have spent significant time behind the wheel overseas and at Holden’s Lang Lang proving ground."
The new Commodore will have bespoke 20-inch alloy wheels, larger rear spoiler, front and rear sports facias and premium VXR sill plates.
The next-generation Commodore VXR will be on sale with the rest of the sedan range, along with Sportwagon and Tourer body styles, in early next year.
