Holden has partnered with pro surfer, Matt ‘Wilko’ Wilkinson, to build the ultimate surf truck ahead of summer.
Famous for his relaxed attitude and backhand snap, Wilko rates as Australia’s most successful male surfer over the last 18 months. But, with surfing mastered, Wilko has now turned his hand to designing his own perfect surf truck – built off the Colorado Z71.
“I recently visited Holden’s design studio in Melbourne and got to spec up the Colorado to be perfect for off-the-beaten-path surf trips and it looks pretty awesome," said Wilko.
“It’s got a safari bar, some underbody protection and all-terrain tyres as well as some stuff that makes it look cool, so I’m looking forward to a bit of beach driving when I’m back home.”
Wilko visited Holden’s Port Melbourne Design Studio and built his car alongside Design Director, Richard Ferlazzo, using Holden’s Virtual Reality studio before seeing the car be built in the garages.
“Colorado is such a versatile truck with a huge accessories range and to have the chance to show that off with Wilko is really exciting,” said Ferlazzo.
With the Colorado Z71 kitted out for surf trips, Wilko and the team headed South East of Melbourne to put it to the test on the beach before calling in at Holden’s famous, top secret proving ground in Lang Lang, Gippsland, to see just how much the truck can do.
“Driving on the beach was nothing compared to the tracks we drove at the proving ground – that place is a challenge!” said Wilko.
“The Colorado bashed its way through a rough 4x4 only track, swam through a deep water bath and got up a very steep off-road mud hill. It also proved its no slouch on the high-speed track!”
Wilko’s freshly design Colorado Z71 surf truck is built on a Colorado Z71 automatic crew cab in Phantom Black with the following Holden Genuine Accessories:
- Safari Bar and Bash Plate protection
- LED Light Bar
- Off-road tyres
- Tow bar
- Tubular Side Steps
- Rear Steel Steps
- Bonnet Bulge
