In a ceremony that was extremely reminiscent of the Chevrolet Corvette C8 reveal earlier this year, the covers have officially been pulled off Ford's fully-electric Mustang Mach-E SUV.
"It's a new Mustang for a new age," Idris Elba said as he opened up the proceedings before the official Mach-E trailer played, throwing things back to the Mustang's golden days.
Before the Mach-E was unveiled in all its glory, Ford showed off the SUVs interior, complete with an extremely simplistic dash interface similar to a Tesla's. Just two screens sit in front of the driver, one handling the gauges and driving information, while the other extremely large touchscreen handles the infotainment system and other functions.
While the interior remains the same across the range, getting into the different models can get extremely confusing, and we're still trying to wrap our heads around them.
At the bottom of the pile sits the Select grade, which starts from US$43,895, and can be had in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive formats. Torque figures differ between layouts, but the peak is a 565Nm, which allows a 0-100km/h time around the mid five-second mark.
The next step up the Mach-E ladder is the Premium, which is offered in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive formats, and comes in standard and long range configurations.
As you would expect, the long-range model has the longest maximum range out of all the Mach-Es, but takes a hit in the performance region because of it.
The two other models in the Mach-E line-up are the First Edition and the California Route 1.
Ford remained tight-lipped about the range-topping Mach-E GT during the launch, but hinted at some serious performance figures. This SUV is said to be able to sprint to 100km/h in under four seconds, and have a range of around 402km.
A maximum range of 482 kilometres has been confirmed for the high spec Mach-E models, the Select has the lowest maximum range of 370km.
In terms of interior space, the front trunk contains 136 litres of space and the rear luggage compartment can hold 821 litres worth of cargo. That figure can be increased to 1688 litre by folding the back seats down.
New Zealand pricing and availability of the Mach-E hasn't been revealed just yet, but we'll update this article when Ford New Zealand makes the announcement.
