Built on the same platform as the HAVAL H9, Great Wall has confirmed a new ute designed for Australia and New Zealand is heading our way.

The Chinese manufacturer has confirmed that it will be joining the HAVAL SUV range to spearhead Great Wall Motor's global expansion strategy.

Utilising the H9's platform, the next generation ute will provide "greater comfort" alongside "superior 4WD and load carrying capabilities."

Local specifications haven't been confirmed yet, but four variants are going to be released in China — a dual cab with short and long wheelbase options, a single cab, and the adventure model which is designed for New Zealand and Australia.

While the current generation offers both petrol and diesel options, every variant in this new generation will be equipped with a turbo diesel engine matched with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Great Wall plans to unveil the new ute alongside new hybrid vehicles at the Auto Shanghai Motor Show that opens mid-April. While there is no launch date mentioned, we can imagine that it will hit showroom floors near the end of this year.
