It's almost as if they knew it was coming: MG New Zealand's "special, limited-time rebate top up of $2000" essentially replaces the reduction in the BEV Clean Car Discount just announced by the Government.

MG is offering an extra $2k discount on selected models only: the MG ZS EV Essence standard and long range (ie not the entry-level Excite model), and both Excite and Essence versions of the HS PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle).

The Government has just announced a raft of changes to the Clean Car Discount programme which include a reduction on the BEV rebate from $8625 to $7015, and PHEVs from $5750 to $4025 (changes of $1610 and $1725 respectively).

So the $2k top-up gives buyers that money back and then some - at least until the end of of June, when the MG offer ends. The company is further sweeneing the plug-in pot with another $500 discount on any MG Aurora Charge Hub, provided it's purchased within six months of a ZS EV or HS PHEV vehicle.

The combination of the revised Clean Car Discount and $2k top-up takes the price of the ZS EV Essence from $53,990 to $44,975, closing the gap to the entry-level Excite ($49,990 less $7015, to $42,975).

The HS PHEV Excite goes from $52,990 to $46,965, while the Essence drops from $56,990 to $50,965.

All MG models come with seven years unlimited kilometre warranty, seven years roadside assistance and seven years warrant of fitness checks.
