Now, Germans, on a whole, are not exactly renowned for their sense of humour. And neither are parking wardens. So it was little wonder that when Austrian artist Erwin Wurm found a parking ticket on the windscreen of his sculpture “Truck” — that featured a Mercedes MB100D truck curving up the side of the Centre for Art and Media in Karlsruhe in Germany — his first thought was one of the outraged “bureaucracy gone mad” variety.
But this wasn’t some humourless civil servant not understanding art, it was the rarest of all things — a German parking warden with a brilliant sense of humour, as the citation was not for illegal parking, but for “gross violation of physical laws”. Which is pretty damn funny ...
A spokeswoman for the arts centre said “We think it’s great if the fine men of this city think for themselves artistically!”
The ticket was later waived.
