Tesla' 'ludicrous' mode that shows off its incredible acceleration is legendary - but now, the firm has revealed an altogether calmer version.
The reduced acceleration feature, called 'Chill: a new acceleration,' was introduced to make driving smoother, allowing drivers to reduce their car's performance, or conserve battery life.
The latest update also includes a new feature that moves the seat to make it easier for driver's to get in and out.
Describing the acceleration option in the new 2017.44 update, Tesla said: 'You can now choose between two acceleration options in your vehicle: Chill and Standard.
'Chill makes acceleration more gradual – ideal for smoother driving and a gentler ride for your passengers.'
This update is in contrast to Tesla's 'ludicrous plus' mode, which was released earlier this year and allows Tesla cars to blast drivers and passengers from 0-100km/h in just 2.34 seconds.
To activate the new chill mode, drivers must go to their controls, select 'controls' and then select 'driving' and select 'chill' under the 'acceleration' section.
While the update began being rolled out last weekend, it may take some time for all Tesla owners to receive the update.
The other update, which makes exiting a Tesla car easier, involves the steering wheel and driver's seat adjusting automatically.
'Starting in this release, you can get in and out of the driver’s seat more easily,' Tesla said in a release.
'When you park, the steering wheel and driver’s seat will automatically adjust for an easier exit.
'After you return to the vehicle, they automatically adjust back to the recent driving profile when you step on the brake.
'Or, if your keyfob is linked to your driver profile, the seat and steering wheel adjust accordingly.
'As always, you can restore your profile by selecting it from the list.'
The new seat adjustment update was suggested to Elon Musk on Twitter in August of this year, and has now been incorporated into the new software update.
To activate the seat adjustment feature, Tesla owners must access the 'control' panel, select 'settings', then 'driver profiles' and select 'use easy entry.'
Once those setting have been selected, the driver is then asked to adjust their seat and steering wheel according to their preferences, and save the settings.
In other Tesla news, the company's new Model 3 electric car has just recently launched.
The US$35,000 five-seat car will be able to travel 350km on a single charge and will be sporty, accelerating from zero to 100km/h in under six seconds.
Although the eco-friendly car is affordable compared to other Teslas, those looking to buy the vehicle may be waiting months before they can get behind the wheel.
Tesla said it had missed its production goal for the third quarter, producing only 260 vehicles compared to an earlier estimate of 1,500.
Tesla said last month it delivered 26,150 vehicles in the third quarter, a 4.5 per cent rise on the same period of 2016, but added that 'production bottlenecks' had left the company behind its planned ramp-up for the Model 3.
On Wednesday November 1 it said it now hoped to achieve a production rate of 5,000 per month by the end of the first quarter of next year, pushed back from the end of this year
