Leading V8 Supercar team celebrates ‘Back to the Future Day’ with new livery
Leading V8 Supercar squad Prodrive Racing Australia have taken the covers off their newly liveried Ford Falcon FG-X V8 Supercar that drivers Cameron Waters and Russell Ingall — who is substituting for the injured Chaz Mostert — will use at this weekend’s Gold Coast 600.
The concept’s release aligns with a moment in the second film in the Back to the Future franchise, where main character Marty McFly (played by Michael J. Fox) travels to today, the 21st of October, 2015. The reveal also ties in with the 30th anniversary re-release of the original film.

The number six Falcon is draped in a flat silver similar to that of which the DeLorean DMC-12 made famous in the cult-classic franchise. Among its graphics are some of the piping and wiring patterns from the movie car, as well as retro ‘Pepsi Perfect’ signage — a nod to a Pepsi reference made in the films where Marty returns to the past with a bottle of the soft drink branded with Pepsi Perfect logos.
Pepsi have also released a limited edition Pepsi Perfect bottle in overseas markets. It’s unknown whether these will surface in New Zealand.

The car also features stunning gull-wing doors, hubcaps that replicate DeLorean wheels, a Flux Capacitor, a Mr. Fusion device, and specially made ‘thrusters’ on the rear — but none of these quirky additions will be retained for the Gold Coast meeting.
Alongside the images of the car, a short film has been released. It features Mostert, the team’s lead driver Mark Winterbottom, and a host of cameos — including Prodrive Team Principal Tim Edwards, who plays the role of Emmett ‘Doc’ Brown. You can view the short film below:
While the car, and the promotion, had originally been shaped around Mostert being the car’s main driver, his replacement, Ingall, features at the end of the clip. While most of the filming took place prior to Mostert's massive crash at the Bathurst 1000, Ingall's cameo was only filmed since he was confirmed as Mostert's replacement.
Practice for the Gold Coast 600, which is the final round of the V8 Supercars endurance series, kicks off on Friday morning. Car six will hit the track for race one on Saturday at 5.35pm NZST, with race two scheduled for 5.30pm on Sunday afternoon.
