While most electric vehicles currently on the market look to serve a purpose of reducing emissions, and being an overall cheaper form of transport, it seems that Ford is going over and above with the new F-150 Lightning.
Not only will the all-electric Ford pick-up be able to power other electrical devices, like a house, but it will also reportedly be able to charge other EVs, initially starting with other Lightnings.

"We are [working on] a vehicle-to-vehicle system," Zhang told The Drive. "[Charging other EVs] is going to be dependent on the power cord, and the Mach-E system is not set up for that right now, but Lightning will be."
According to Zhang, the plan is for the Lightning to eventually be able to charge any electric vehicle, but electrical architecture limits mean that the Lightning is the only option right now.
The ability to be able to share charge with another EV is something new to the segment, but it seemed that Rivian had the idea first. Back in 2019, the company's CEO claimed that the R1T would get the ability upon launch, but it never came to fruition.
It seems that the real benefit here will be for business fleets that have numerous Lightnings on the same site. Being able to power up another truck without bringing in a generator is far more cost-effective.
It will be interesting to see when this technology gets extended to other EVs across the market, allowing full connectivity.
