  • Exclusively Hybrid Stormtrak models, with Flexible Rack System.
  • Pro Power Onboard will be used for training equipment.

Ford New Zealand has become the official vehicle provider for Canoe Racing NZ (CRNZ), the national body for the sport. This sees a fleet of Ranger Hybrid Stormtrak models completely replacing a variety of leased vehicles (of various brands and body types) for the organisation.

CRNZ governsthe kayaking disciplines of Canoe Sprint, Ocean Ski and Canoe Marathon.

The plug-in Rangers will be used for day-to-day operations and for travel across the country for training and competitions.

“Success in canoe racing isn’t just about what happens on the water; it’s about the preparation and the ability to get our team and their gear to the right place at the right time,” says Graham Oberlin-Brown, CEO of CRNZ. “Having a partner like Ford NZ... is a game-changer for us.".

Ford says the Stormtrak was selected partly to showcase the abilities and convenience of the Flexible Rack System (FRS) fitted as standard to the model, which is a nifty way to carry a kayak.

The vehicles will also be used for towing duties and Oberlin-Brown says the ability to use Pro Power Onboard (the Hybrid powertrain can be used as a mobile generator) will be a boon for training or community activities in rural areas.

CRNZ is currently preparing for a busy season of domestic championships and international qualifiers.

"We are thrilled to provide the 'driving force' behind our incredible paddlers, helping them reach the water and pursue their podium dreams with the reliability of a Ford,” says Annaliese Atina, managing director of Ford NZ.

Ford's existing partnerships also span rugby, cricket, football, and hockey.
