First update of many released for Italian-flavoured Toyota 86
While drifting continues to wear a maligned reputation, you would be hard pressed to find a form of motorsport that places more focus on innovation and creativity.
That's probably one of the reasons drifting has its doubters; the way that creativity and 'style' are seen as big central elements to 'getting it' while other veins of racing pedestal function and forget form.
US drifter Ryan Tuerck could be seen as a bit of a metaphor for the whole thing. The Formula Drift regular hasn't won an event since 2009, and yet is considered one of the sport's biggest names because of the thick rivers of creativity that flow from his ear holes. Tuerck whipped the covers off his latest project earlier this year; a project that has since become one of the most talked-about cars of 2016 — and now with Donut Media he's released the first video showing the car in proper lingering detail.
In an age where bizarre engine swaps in professional drifting are the norm, it's hard to be surprised these days in what donk finds its way into what frame. But jaws dropped when Tuerck announced he and the team of engineers at Huddy Racing were going to marry a Toyota 86 with the power plant from a Ferrari 458.
Is it silly? Hell yes it's silly, but traversing unbeaten paths is often silly. The '4586' (I'm pronouncing that 'four five eighty six') won't be a competition car like Tuerck's Formula Drift and rallying 86s, which only makes it an even less necessary endeavor.
Both Tuerck and the team have a long road ahead of them with this car, but the resulting creation has the potential to become something truly hallowed.
I cannot wait to see, and hear, this thing cook some tyres.
