Mitsubishi has revealed the first details of the e-Evolution concept which will make its world debut at the Tokyo Motor Show on October 25.
Mitsubishi say the concept offers a glimpse into the company's future and displays their full-electric vehicle capabilities.
The e-Evolution concept will deliver its power to the ground via three high-torque and high-performance electric motors, supplied by a high-capacity battery system.
The triple motor 4WD system uses a single motor to drive the front wheels and a new Dual Motor AYC (Active Yaw Control) system to couple two rear motors through an electronically controlled torque-vectoring Active Yaw Control unit.
What separates the e-Evolution concept from previous Mitsubishi models is the addition of an Artificial Intelligence system (AI), designed to read the driver's skill level and deliver a safe level of performance regardless of weather or surface conditions.
The AI system will 'augment the driver's capabilities.' An array of sensors allows the AI system to read changes in road and traffic conditions, as well as the driver’s steering and pedal inputs.
Combining the two, Mitsubishi say the AI system will configure the car so it behaves the way drivers want, making it easier and safer to control.
The AI system also features a special 'coaching function'. After building a picture of the driver’s skill level, the system constructs a training program that provides advice through voice dialogue and a large dashboard display.
Mitsubishi won't mention any performance figures yet, but the addition of a coaching function would be difficult to justify in anything less than a high-performance EV.
At the Tokyo Motor Show the e-Evolution concept will be joined by 12 other Mitsubishi models including the new Eclipse Cross coupe SUV, unveiled in Japan for the first time, and the Outlander PHEV.
