After the first vote, Alfa Romeo, Audi, BMW, Citroen, Kia, SEAT and Volvo are all in the race for European Car of the Year 2018.
A jury of 60 members from 23 European countries has whittled a preliminary list of 37 contenders down to only seven finalists that have proved themselves in various test throughout 2017.
To pick a final winner, each juror will have 25 points to award to at least five of the nominees. The juror will also have to state and determine his/her voting criteria. For a car to be eligible, the model must be available in the European market in the 12 months preceding the date of the title. Only two of the finalists are currently available in New Zealand, with the rest due for release in 2018.
The 2018 winner will be revealed on the eve of the Geneva Motorshow on March 5th, 2018.
The current title holder is the Peugeot 3008, the first SUV in the award’s 53-year history to win the highest European Car of the Year accolade.
