Despite being unceremoniously sacked from Top Gear Jeremy Clarkson's years of working the programme could be about to end on a high.

The last series featuring Clarkson, which ended on Sunday with an episode watched by 5.8million people, has been nominated for the best entertainment show at the 2015 TV Choice Awards.

Top Gear will face off against Ant and Dec, whose Saturday Night Takeaway show is also up for the prize, along with ITV2's Celebrity Juice and The Graham Norton Show.

However, Clarkson, who is currently on tour doing live motoring shows with former co-stars Richard Hammond and James May, is believed to be working on a rival programme.

TV Choice and Total TV Guide's editor-in-chief Jon Peake said: "Top Gear is a big hit with our readers."

Lenny Henry will host the TV Choice Awards, which take place at the London Hilton Park Lane hotel on September 7.

Meanwhile Clarkson has just watched his 27-year tenure on Top Gear end. So it's perhaps understandable that he should be seen treating himself to a night out - which is exactly what he did on Monday evening.

The 55 year-old presenter, who's final episode of the show aired in Britain 24 hours earlier, was spotted out in London's Mayfair, where he cut a downbeat figure.

Wearing his trademark stonewash jeans with a plain blue shirt, the TV star appeared poker-faced as he stepped out in Mayfair.

Clutching his car keys, a pack of cigarettes and a lighter, he was joined by a male pal for outing, which saw him enjoy a meal in a local restaurant.

Going jacket-free for the occasion, he was clearly embracing the city's heatwave - even if his own relations with the BBC has considerably cooled.
