Jeep parent company Fiat Chrysler has issued a recall notice for vehicles in the 2011-2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee range to address the potential for an electrical fire.
The fault reportedly centres on the vanity lamp integrated into the sun visor, which could experience a high resistance short after a service repair or while accessing the space behind the headliner.
The company reports that the fault may lead to an inoperative vanity lamp, or worse, an electrical fire.
ATECO Group NZ, the local importer of the Jeep brand, has confirmed there are currently 684 vehicles involved in the recall currently in NZ.
For affected owners, FCA intends to repair vehicles free of charge. However, a permanent remedy for this condition is currently under development. FCA is making every effort to finalize a remedy and obtain parts as quickly as possible.
FCA is expecting to have a remedy available in the fourth quarter of 2016. FCA will contact owners by mail, with a follow-up recall notice, when the remedy is available.
The recall forms part of a wider action that has seen more than 600,000 Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango models recalled in North America for the same issue.
