Former champ hoping to reclaim glory in upcoming drift season
Whangarei local Daniel Woolhouse is looking to start his drifting season in style when he lines up at Forsyth Barr Stadium for the first round of the D1NZ National Drifting Championship.
This event will mark the first time in the Southern Hemisphere that there's been a purpose built track built in an enclosed stadium.
Woolhouse, also known as Fanga Dan, said they're looking forward to getting off to a good start in the Championship.
"I'm pretty confident, we've done everything we can during off-season to refresh car and give it a fresh new look. If the car looks good then you feel good," he said.
"Pretty pumped to see what the track is like, given it's been built on top of a rugby ground."
"We haven't done a lot of training during off-season, but we've looked back at last season to see what we need to do to improve on last year."
"Two mechanical failures let us down last time so we've changed them going into the first race."
Woolhouse has improved his car for the 2016 version of the Championship and said the fans are part of what keeps him coming back.
"We've upgraded to latest model car so we're feeling good, getting great support from the vehicle," he said.
"The fans are part of what keeps me coming back, they have given me some unreal support which has been fantastic."
"Going into my 14th year of drifting and to see how far we've come in the sport, it's quite amazing. Too see an event like this in a stadium like Forsyth Barr is amazing," he said.
"I also have to give a big thanks to sponsors for getting me to this point and to the competition."
Round One of the D1NZ National Drifting Championships runs from December 2-3 in Dunedin.
