Mercedes-Benz has added to the success of the C-Class sedan by revealing a coupe version that includes a powerful AMG model.
Revealed in Malaga, Spain last week at the international launch, the all-new C-Class coupe that is 95mm longer and 40mm wider than its predecessor.
New Zealand will have four models at the local launch mid-2016, with a 300 petrol, 250 diesel and an AMG C63 S. Later in the year a 450 petrol model will be added.
Mercedes-Benz NZ will confirm prices closer to the local launch but expects prices to be similar to the outgoing range that starts at $69,900.

Mercedes-Benz NZ managing director, Ben Giffin, told Driven exclusively that the all-new C-Class coupe model range “is comprehensively specced and sets a new benchmark in the segment”.
“Our stunning new C-Class coupe further enhances the exceptional and award-winning C-Class range,” said Giffin.
“The coupe embodies sportiness and delivers outstanding driving dynamics and performance with all our class-leading technology and innovation.”
While the coupe retains Mercedes’ now iconic diamond grille and sculptured side panels, the C-pillar has been extended further past the rear wheel arch and the suspension is 15mm lower to give it a more sporty appearance.
The four-seater coupe is 4686mm long, 1810mm wide, 1405mm high and a 2849mm wheelbase with the increased volume giving more headroom for all occupants.
Inside, the coupe continues the clean lines of the C-Class and S-Class sedans while the dash still has the infotainment screen plonked on rather than integrated into the dash or console as we’re seeing in more European marques.
At the Malaga launch, I drove the 250 diesel and 300 petrol around the Costa del Sol before testing the C63 S coupe at the private 5.5km Ascari track and the following day on a 140km trip around the windy, mountain roads inland from Marbella.
While AMG’s C63 S was the standout as a sport performance vehicle thanks to the 4-litre, V8 biturbo 375kW/700Nm engine with a top speed of 250km/h, the 300 with the 2litre 135kW/350Nm petrol engine also shone as an everyday vehicle.
At the Malaga launch, AMG’s CEO Tobias Moers said the C63 S coupe was “clearing marking the next performance for AMG”.
“While our focus is on driving dynamics our next primary goal is to produce a vehicle that is form follows function,” said Moers.
