Mercedes-AMG’s boss has revealed to the Australasian media at the Geneva motor show that the Black Series will return to its lineup.

While the show was used to reveal the latest GT, the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door coupe, in a separate interview, Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Moers revealed that there was more room in the sports car line up.

“There is a GT variant still [we need to do],” said Moers said. “There’s still a kind of sub-brand of AMG that needs support.”

Without waiting for the media to guess, Moers revealed, “we’ve started the journey of Black Series”.

Only AMG’s most coveted performance models get the Black Series badge with five previous cars with the moniker.

Currently the top performer in the GT line up is the GT R, with an output of 475kW.

“Establishing the GTR with outstanding driving dynamics, better than anything before, this must be, and this is what I say always, the next Black Series done out of the GT must be something really surprising. And this is what we’re working on,” he said.

While he won’t say when the GT Black Series would be revealed, he did hint that “2020” would be a good year.
