Lamborghini has officially launched its 12-cylinder Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce in Barcelona, with the supercar now on sale in New Zealand.
Of the 600 special edition Superveloces produced, 500 have already been pre-sold around the world, including New Zealand.
Priced from $775,000, Lamborghini New Zealand general manager Greg Brinck told Driven that already one Kiwi fan has bought an Aventador SV, with more sales expected.
“We have one pre-sold so far and we hope to sell four to five in New Zealand based on numbers of Anniversary LP720-4 we sold,” he said.
The official launch of the Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce (SV) was at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya that recently played host to F1, and will have the MotoGP in attendance on June 14.
The specially designed Aventador has had its weight reduced by 50kg due to extensive use of carbon fibre and with the naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 engine’s power increased to 552 kW/690Nm.
The Aventador SV has a top speed of 350km/h and goes from 0-100km/h in 2.8 seconds.
“Superveloce” means “extremely fast” in Italian and the supercar showed that by recently posting a sub-7 minute lap (6.59minutes) on the famous Nurburgring circuit during testing of its Pirelli tyres. That time was two seconds faster than Porsche 918 Spyder’s time. Lamborghini’s Research and Development director, Maurizio Reggiani, told Driven at the Barcelona circuit launch that he was extremely happy with the result of the performance from the V12.
“We had a target for performance for the car and it exceeded our expectations,” said Reggiani.
Did he think that the Nurburgring time would help with the reputation of the supersports car?
“Yes, in a way, but for customers they already knew how special the car is.”
And there are some New Zealand customers who will soon be able to test the Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce at the Catalunya circuit, with seven Kiwi Lamborghini owners set to drive the V12 next week during a driver academy event.
