Super sports coupe is new halo car for Italian brand
Lamborghini has launched the all-new Aventador S super sports coupe that the company says is the new flagship vehicle for the brand.
The car goes on sale in April this year with New Zealand prices yet to be announced but it cost about US$421,000 (NZ$580,00).
It has a new aerodynamic design, redeveloped suspension, increased power and new driving dynamics.
The 'S' is the suffix of previous enhanced Lamborghini models. The Aventador S is the first product in nearly 40 to gain the ‘S’ title, with the Countach S the last to have that honour.
The first Aventador was launched in 2011 and has proved a success for the company, alongside the Huracan coupe that is based on the platform of Lamborghini’s parent company, Audi AG’s R8.
The Italian company has seen record worldwide sales of its super sports cars sold in the past two years with nearly 3500 last year. But the company is now getting ready for its biggest revolution – its super sports SUV, the Urus.
In April the company’s new plant for the Urus will begin operations before the SUV is revealed, probably at the Frankfurt motor show.

But over the past few days Lamborghini has been concentrating on the Aventador S at its global launch in Valencia, Spain and at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit.
The Aventador S retains its famous 5-litre, V12 naturally aspirated engine, now with an impressive 554kW of power and 690Nm of torque.
The new super sports coupe gains a more aggressive nose and longer front splitter redirect airflow for better aerodynamic efficiency and improved engine cooling. Two air ducts in the side of the front bumper also help cool the specially designed Pirelli tyres.
But it’s at the rear of the Lamborghini Aventador S that is most changed, three single exhaust outlets exit through the rear bumper.
