Ineos has released more details about its upcoming all-electric 4x4 SUV that will slot into its range under the rugged Grenadier. The British company has been working on the project since at least 2022, hammering away at the kinks before showing off the outcome.

Things aren't ready yet, as the off-road electric vehicle (EV) has a 2026 release date, but Ineos has given us an intriguing update.

Ineos has since broadened its horizons with other power sources, showing off a neat Grenadier hydrogen demonstrator at this past month's Goodwood Festival of Speed. But the smaller electric SUV gets most people going, and Ineos does not disappoint.

The battery-electric SUV runs on an all-new platform specifically designed for EVs. Ineos says this is due to difficulties fitting a high-capacity battery pack into the existing Grenadier ICE chassis.

“It’s going to be a skateboard-style platform - a monocoque is really the only way to go when you’re converting a Grenadier [style 4×4] into an electric vehicle,” said Lynn Calder, Chief Executive of Ineos.

That's probably for the better, as Ineos has again tapped Magna Steyr to co-develop the Grenadier EV. The Austrian auto manufacturer also helped develop the EV, so there might be no better partner for Ineos.

Plus, Ineos is likely using the Magna FM29 platform, which also underpins the Fisker Ocean, another promising (if not niche) SUV. While the Ocean has an estimated EPA range of about 580 km, the Ineos EV will reportedly deliver at least 400 km.

We have no word yet on specs and pricing, as it's a bit too early, and several things could change about the Ineos EV at this stage in development.
