This week Ducati unveiled the most powerful Monster ever, the Monster 1200 R.
Ducati says the new Monster 1200 R has been designed for riders who make sports performance their lifestyle and wish to turn each ride into an adrenaline-packed experience without forgoing the essential, practical appeal of a naked motorcycle. Essentially, for people who like to go fast but want a naked bike.
Equipped with the 1200cc Testastretta L twin-cylinder engine, the Monster 1200 R takes the Ducati naked sports bike concept and injects even more power into the mix.
Put the Monster 1200 R next to its older 1200 S sibling and you'll see and 10% increase in power to 117 Kw and a 5.5% increase in torque to a tyre destroying 131 Nm.
Öhlins has come to the party to ensure power is transferred to the ground and not into the nearest tree, with new 48 mm fully adjustable USD forks and an Öhlins steering damper keep the front end in line, while a progressive linkage with fully adjustable Öhlins monoshock keeps the aluminium single-sided swing arm planted on the road.
Safety hasn't been neglected with Ducati including its Ducati Safety Pack of ABS and traction control systems keeping the rider safe while in any of the three riding modes.
A full-TFT colour display dash unit, similar to that found on the flagship Panigale gives the rider all the information they could need in an easy to read
The nose fairing and radiator trim come engraved with the “R” logo, while the bike will be available in two colour schemes - Ducati Red and Thrilling Black (Ducati's words, not mine) which complete the signature Ducati look.
